Visual rights and licensing

& Visual Content Policy.

Information on how photographs, illustrations, graphics, screenshots, maps and other visual materials appearing on bcaun.at are sourced, licensed, modified, attributed and used.

Policy summary

Visual material is used only where BCA has a licence, permission, statutory basis or original ownership.

Images may be created internally, commissioned, obtained from commercial or royalty-free libraries, supplied by an authorised third party or incorporated into a custom composition. Licence terms differ between providers, so the permitted use of a visual asset must be assessed according to its particular source and licence rather than by the general appearance of the image.

01 / Scope

Visual materials covered by this policy

This policy applies to visual content displayed on bcaun.at, including:

  • photographs and photographic compositions;
  • illustrations, diagrams and infographics;
  • icons, graphic elements and decorative assets;
  • maps and location graphics;
  • screenshots and interface extracts;
  • charts, tables and data visualisations;
  • logos and other third-party identifiers;
  • generated, rendered or digitally composed imagery;
  • visual materials contained in downloadable documents.

This policy explains BCA’s general visual-content approach. It does not replace the individual licence, attribution condition or permission applicable to a particular asset.

02 / General principles

Selection and rights-management principles

Visual material is selected to support information concerning Austrian and German companies, international business, corporate structures, market entry, banking and related commercial subjects.

BCA seeks to use visual content only where at least one of the following applies:

  • BCA created the material and owns the relevant rights;
  • the material was commissioned with appropriate usage rights;
  • a valid stock or commercial licence permits the intended use;
  • the rights holder supplied or authorised the material;
  • the material is available under an applicable open licence;
  • the use is permitted by an applicable statutory provision;
  • the material is in the public domain where legally recognised.
Rights assessment

“Available online” does not mean “free to reuse”.

The fact that an image can be viewed, downloaded or located through a search engine does not by itself grant commercial reproduction rights.

03 / Sources

Sources of visual material

Depending on the particular page and date of publication, visual material may originate from:

Source category Examples Rights basis
Internal production Original diagrams, graphic systems, photographs and layouts Ownership or internal assignment of rights
Commissioned work Photography, illustration or design created by an external professional Contractual licence or transfer of rights
Stock platforms Adobe Stock, Unsplash, Pexels or another recognised provider Provider-specific commercial or royalty-free licence
Official sources Public-authority graphics, maps, statistics or documents Applicable reuse conditions or statutory permission
Third-party submissions Client, partner, provider or event materials Permission or representation of sufficient rights
Generated material Rendered, algorithmically generated or digitally composed visuals Tool terms, source rights and applicable law

Mention of a platform does not mean that every image on the website comes from that platform. The source must be determined from the individual asset record where one is maintained.

04 / Licensing

Licence conditions differ between providers and assets.

BCA uses visual material in accordance with the licence or permission applicable at the time the material is obtained.

A licence may permit:

  • commercial website use;
  • editorial and informational publication;
  • cropping, resizing and colour adjustment;
  • integration into a larger design or composition;
  • use in social media or downloadable materials;
  • use without attribution where the licence expressly allows it.

A licence may still prohibit or restrict:

  • resale or redistribution as a standalone file;
  • use as a trademark or principal product identity;
  • misleading or defamatory presentation of depicted persons;
  • use in templates distributed to third parties;
  • use beyond a stated audience, territory or media type;
  • removal of a required attribution or rights notice.

The expression “royalty-free” does not necessarily mean that an asset is free of charge or free from licence conditions. It generally describes a licensing model rather than absence of copyright.

05 / Attribution

Credits are provided where required by the applicable licence.

Some commercial and royalty-free licences do not require a visible credit. Other licences require the author, source, licence type or a link to be displayed.

Where attribution is required, it may appear:

  • directly beneath or beside the image;
  • in an image caption;
  • in a page-specific credits section;
  • in this policy’s specific-credits register;
  • in the metadata or notes of a downloadable document;
  • in another position permitted by the relevant licence.

The absence of a visible credit does not mean that the visual material is unlicensed, owned by no one or available for unrestricted reuse.

Attribution correction

A missing required credit can be corrected without conceding unlawful use.

Where a licence requires attribution and the published credit is incomplete, BCA may add or correct the credit after verifying the relevant licence and rights holder.

06 / Modifications

Visual materials may be adapted within the permitted licence scope.

Depending on the relevant rights and licence, visual content may be:

  • cropped or resized;
  • converted to monochrome;
  • colour-corrected or recoloured;
  • overlaid with text or graphic elements;
  • placed within editorial cards or interface compositions;
  • combined with other licensed or original materials;
  • simplified, redrawn or stylised;
  • optimised for responsive website display.

Modification does not remove third-party copyright in the underlying work. The rights applicable to the original material continue to be respected.

07 / Editorial use

Most website imagery is illustrative rather than evidentiary.

Unless expressly identified as an actual case, client, office, transaction or project, a photograph or illustration is used to support the presentation of the relevant topic.

A visual image does not, by itself, mean that:

  • the depicted person is a BCA client or employee;
  • the depicted company has engaged or endorsed BCA;
  • the location shown is a BCA office;
  • the image represents a completed BCA transaction;
  • the visual is a photograph of the service described;
  • the persons or businesses shown have any connection with the article.

Where an image is intended as factual evidence or depicts a real BCA event, project or office, the surrounding text should make that context clear.

08 / People and properties

Images of people may involve rights beyond copyright.

A licence to use a photograph does not always resolve every question relating to the depicted person, private property, artwork, branding or location.

Depending on the context, BCA may consider:

  • model or property releases supplied by the provider;
  • whether the use is commercial, editorial or illustrative;
  • whether the presentation could imply endorsement;
  • whether the use could be misleading, sensitive or defamatory;
  • whether visible brands or protected works require separate treatment.

Stock photographs of people are not used to imply that the depicted individuals have a particular legal status, financial condition, nationality, business problem or relationship with BCA.

09 / Logos and screenshots

Third-party names, logos and interfaces remain the property of their owners.

A third-party logo, trademark, website screenshot or interface extract may be displayed for identification, commentary, instruction, comparison or explanation.

Such use does not imply:

  • sponsorship or endorsement by the trademark owner;
  • a partnership unless expressly stated;
  • ownership by BCA of the third-party mark or interface;
  • permission for visitors to extract and reuse the material.

Product names, service names, company names and logos belong to their respective owners.

10 / Maps and official materials

Maps, flags, official symbols and public information require source-specific review.

Materials published by governments, registries, international organisations or public authorities are not automatically free from all rights or reuse restrictions.

Where public-source material is used, BCA may:

  • link directly to the official source;
  • reproduce a limited extract for explanation;
  • redraw data in an original chart or table;
  • identify the institution and publication;
  • follow any stated open-data or reuse conditions;
  • avoid implying official endorsement.

Interactive maps supplied by an external provider may also be governed by that provider’s terms, attribution requirements and privacy rules.

11 / Generated visual content

Generated imagery is reviewed before publication.

BCA may use digitally generated, rendered or substantially transformed visual material where appropriate for conceptual, editorial or decorative purposes.

Before publication, relevant considerations may include:

  • the terms of the tool used to create the material;
  • rights in any source image or reference material;
  • possible resemblance to real persons or protected works;
  • accuracy where the image appears factual or documentary;
  • the risk of misleading users about a real project or event;
  • whether disclosure is appropriate in the surrounding context.

Conceptual generated imagery should not be interpreted as evidence of a real client, office, authority, transaction or completed corporate structure.

12 / Reuse by visitors

Website publication does not grant a licence to reuse visual assets.

Unless a particular asset is expressly made available under a stated reuse licence, visitors may not independently:

  • copy or republish images from the website;
  • use them in commercial presentations or advertising;
  • extract them from the page and distribute the original file;
  • sell, sublicense or upload them to another image library;
  • modify and republish them as independent works;
  • remove watermarks, credits or rights notices.

BCA may not itself have authority to grant third-party reuse rights for stock, partner or official-source material. A person seeking to reuse such an asset should contact the original rights holder or licensing platform.

13 / Specific credits register

Page-specific attribution should be recorded where required.

The website currently relies primarily on original layouts, graphic treatments and visual materials that do not require a separate public credit line.

Where an individual image requires attribution, the relevant record may be added below using the following structure:

Page or asset Creator or source Licence or permission
Specific credited assets No separate public entries listed in the current version Credits will be added where required by an applicable licence

This table should be updated when an image requiring visible or centralised attribution is added to the website.

Publishing workflow

Store the licence record before publishing the asset.

An internal source record should identify the original file, source URL or supplier, date obtained, licence type and any attribution or use restrictions.

14 / Rights concerns

Reporting a copyright, licence or attribution concern

A rights holder or authorised representative who believes that visual material has been used incorrectly may contact BCA for review.

The notice should include, where available:

01 Identify the material

Provide the relevant page URL and describe the image, graphic, screenshot or other asset.

02 Explain the claimed right

Identify the author, rights holder, licence or authority on whose behalf the request is made.

03 Describe the concern

State whether the issue concerns ownership, attribution, licence scope, modification or another form of use.

04 Provide supporting evidence

Include the original publication, registration, contract, source file or other reasonably relevant evidence.

BCA will review sufficiently detailed notices and may request further information where needed to verify the claim.

Depending on the result, BCA may add or correct attribution, replace the visual material, restrict its use or remove it while the matter is reviewed.

Temporary removal or modification does not by itself constitute an admission of liability or infringement.
